Google Business Profile Reinstatement: How It Works and When to Get Help
Your Google Business Profile is offline. You are invisible on Google Maps and local search, and every day that continues costs you calls, leads, and bookings.
The good news: in most cases, a suspended Google Business Profile can be restored. The process is called reinstatement, and it involves submitting a formal appeal to Google with documentation proving your business is legitimate and compliant with their policies.
The bad news: most business owners approach it incorrectly, use up their limited appeal attempts, and make the situation harder to resolve.
This guide explains what the reinstatement process actually looks like, what causes appeals to fail, and what happens when you need to escalate beyond the standard pathway. We have handled over 200 reinstatements across Australia since early 2025. What follows comes from that experience.

What Is Google Business Profile Reinstatement?
Reinstatement is the formal process of appealing a Google decision to disable or remove your business listing.
When a Google Business Profile is taken offline — by an automated system or a manual reviewer — the profile owner can submit a reinstatement request through Google’s official appeals tool. That request includes documentation proving the business is real, operating at the listed address, and compliant with Google’s guidelines. If the appeal is approved, the profile is restored.
What most people do not realise is that reinstatement is a compliance case, not a complaint. You are not asking Google to reconsider a decision. You are demonstrating — through official evidence — that whatever triggered the removal has been identified and corrected, and that your business is legitimate and complies with Google’s requirements.
That distinction changes everything about how you approach it.
Google My Business (now officially called Google Business Profile) has been the primary local visibility tool for Australian businesses for years. When a profile goes down, so does the phone. Getting your Google Business Profile back online quickly matters.

Common Google Business Profile Suspension Triggers
Before you can submit a reinstatement request, you need to identify what triggered the restriction in the first place. Google does not tell you specifically.
Their notification names a broad category — “policy violation”, “deceptive content”, “inauthentic activity” — and leaves the diagnosis to you.
These are the triggers we see most often in Australian cases.

Address and Business Location Problems
Google requires that your address be a real, staffed physical location. P.O. boxes are never permitted. Virtual offices are only eligible if the space is dedicated, privately occupied, and has your permanent signage at the entrance — a mail-forwarding arrangement does not qualify.
A service area business — one that travels to customers rather than receiving them — must list itself correctly as an SAB and hide the home address from the public profile. Displaying a residential address as a business storefront is one of the most common causes of a hard removal.
Inaccurate service area settings, where the listed coverage does not reflect where the business actually operates, can also trigger a flag.
Business Name with Added Keywords
Your trading name on Google must match your registered business name — the name on your signage, your ASIC registration, your ABN certificate. Nothing more.
Adding keywords, location modifiers, or service descriptions to the name is a direct policy violation. It does not matter how common the practice looks in your industry.
Google treats it as a violation, and profiles are routinely suspended due to keyword-stuffed names.
Duplicate Listings
Multiple profiles for the same business at the same location violate Google’s guidelines.
This happens more often than expected — a new profile is created during a rebrand while the old one is still live, or a second listing auto-generates from a website using the same address.
A duplicate associated with an unrelated business at the same address can also be suspended due to the conflict it creates. Any duplicates must be removed before a reinstatement request is submitted.
Fake Reviews or Review Manipulation
Creating fake or biased reviews is a direct violation of Google’s review policies and often leads to suspension or restrictions.
Attempts to manipulate ratings or mislead users undermine trust signals and are increasingly easy for Google’s systems to detect, especially as patterns build over time.
Genuine customer feedback and consistent, transparent engagement remain the only reliable way to build a strong and sustainable online reputation.
Account-Level Flags
Your profile may also be suspended because of the Google Account managing it, not because of the profile itself.
If anyone with access to your Google Business Profile manager — including a marketing agency — has a Google Account flagged for violations elsewhere, that flag can carry across to your listing.
A weak account history tied to a manager is a risk factor many business owners are not aware of. Audit your manager access regularly and remove anyone whose account standing you cannot verify.
Rapid or Bulk Profile Edits
Making multiple changes to core profile fields — business name, address, category, phone — in a single session looks like a hijacking attempt to Google’s automated systems.
Business hours are lower risk, but changes to identity and location fields carry real suspension risk when made in bulk. Spread significant changes over separate sessions.
The Google Business Profile Reinstatement Process

The process runs through Google’s official appeals tool. There is no phone line, no direct email to a reviewer, and no support chat that can approve a reinstatement. The tool is the only pathway, and understanding how it works before you use it is critical.
Step 1 — Fix the Violation First
Do not submit an appeal on a profile that still contains the issue that triggered the restriction. Google’s system will identify the ongoing violation and deny the request automatically.
This uses up one of your limited appeal attempts and leaves the underlying problem unchanged.
Fix everything before you touch the appeals tool. Remove the keywords from the name. Correct the address. Delete the duplicate. Make sure the profile exactly matches your official registration documents. Then appeal.
Step 2 — Prepare Your Documents Before You Start
The reinstatement form has a hard time constraint: once you open the upload process, you have 60 minutes to submit all supporting evidence. After that window closes, the portal locks. You cannot add documents after the fact.
Prepare everything before you begin. Do not start the process and then scramble for a utility bill.
Google requires three categories of evidence:
- Business identity: ASIC business name registration certificate or ABN confirmation from the Australian Business Register. This is your primary proof that the business is legitimate and registered.
- Address verification: A recent electricity, water, gas, or internet bill in the business name at the listed address. Dated within the last 90 days. The name and address on the bill must match the profile exactly. If you are running your business from home, you can use personal home bills.
- Proof of active trading: A current insurance certificate, a business license, or redacted invoices showing the business is operating from the listed location.
- Picture proof: As a storefront, the best picture you can provide Google is an image showing both the street number and your store/office front door with branding on it. As a service area business (tradies for example), the best picture is a vehicle with branding on it and showing your tools or equipment.
For businesses where physical presence might be questioned, a short unedited video showing the street exterior, your signage, and your working environment inside carries significant weight. Google requires it more often now — postcard verification has largely been retired in Australia.
If you manage multiple locations and want to track document versions and expiry dates, a simple spreadsheet for each profile’s credentials and evidence files saves time when a reinstatement request is needed quickly.
Step 3 — Submit the Appeal Through the Official Google Business Profile Appeals Tool
Log into the Google Account associated with the suspended profile. Open the official Google Business Profile appeals tool, select the affected listing, and check whether the status shows “Eligible for Appeal” or “Cannot Appeal”.
If it shows “Cannot Appeal”, the first appeal is closed and or will need to submit a second appeal or perform a manual escalation — covered below.
In the written evidence statement, keep it factual and short. State that you have reviewed the profile, corrected all compliance issues, and provide a list of the documents attached. Do not submit multiple appeals at the same time, it creates confusion in Google’s review queue and can delay the process.
Once submitted, the profile dashboard will show the status as “In Review”.
Step 4 — Wait Without Touching the Profile
Standard review timelines 1 to 3 business days on average, though high-risk categories — legal services, locksmiths, home trades — can take longer.
Do not edit your profile during this period. Do not create a new listing to replace the offline one — Google treats this as circumvention and can permanently restrict the account. Let Google process the case.
When the profile is restored, allow 24 to 72 hours for full reintegration across Google Maps and local search. Reviews might take a few days to come back.
The Hidden Cost of a Suspended Google Business Profile
Every day your business remains disabled, you lose potential leads and revenue.
- More than 75% of people who search locally on their phone visit a business within 24 hours
- More than 25% of those searches turn into actual sales
When your Google Business Profile is offline, you’re invisible to these potential customers. They’re searching for exactly what you offer but finding your competitors instead. Every day you’re offline is money walking out the door.
Google My Business recovery issues can leave you feeling powerless, especially when you’re not sure how to maintain compliance in the future.

Why Reinstatement Requests Fail
A large portion of the cases we take on come from business owners who already tried the process and received a denial. These are the patterns we see repeatedly.
The Violation Is Still There
This is the most common cause of first-attempt denials. The business owner receives a notification that their profile has been suspended, clicks the appeal link, fills in the form, and submits — without having identified or corrected the underlying issue.
Google’s system reads the profile, identifies the ongoing violation, and denies. One appeal attempt is gone.
Documents Do Not Match the Profile
Accurate business information matters at the character level. If your ASIC registration shows “Smith Electrical Services Pty Ltd” and the Google profile shows “Smith Electrical”, that is a mismatch.
Google’s reviewers are checking consistency, not intent. A legitimate business with inconsistent documentation across its records does not read as legitimate to an automated review process.
Wrong Evidence Submitted
Bank statements, website screenshots, accounting documents and social media profiles are not on Google’s evidence list. They do not substitute for official government registration documents, a recent utility bill, and proof of trading activity.
Submitting a folder of loosely relevant files instead of the specific documents Google actually looks for is a common reason for denials even when the underlying business is completely legitimate.
Profile Edits During the Review
Changes made while an appeal is pending can generate new automated flags and complicate the case. This includes making category changes, adding new photos, or trying to edit your profile to “improve it” while you wait.
Once you submit, leave the profile alone until you have an outcome.
Not Understanding the Limits of the Standard Process
Google provides two structured appeal attempts through the standard tool. After two failed appeals, the “Appeal” button disappears from the profile dashboard.
Many business owners assume at that point that the situation is unresolvable. Some create a new profile as a workaround — which Google considers circumvention and can lead to a permanent ban. The escalation pathways that still exist require knowing how to use them.

Second Appeals, Failed Appeals, and Manual Escalation
A denial on your first appeal is not the end of the road. It is, however, a signal that the case file was not strong enough, or that a compliance issue was missed. Before you resubmit anything, go back through the profile and the documentation with fresh eyes.
The Additional Review Request
After a denial, Google provides a separate form specifically for requesting a second look: the “Request additional review of a denied appeal” form. This is different from the original reinstatement form and is only available after a denial.
This second submission allows you to include new evidence not submitted in the original appeal. It is reviewed separately — sometimes within 24 to 72 hours — and is often more effective than the first submission if the additional evidence is well-prepared and directly addresses the gap that caused the denial.
Do not use this pathway to resubmit the same case. The goal is to strengthen what was weak the first time.
When the Standard Appeal Path Is Exhausted
If two appeals have been denied and the standard form is no longer available, the next step is escalation through the Google Business Profile Help Community.
Product Experts — experienced contributors who have escalation access to Google’s internal teams — can flag legitimate cases for human review. This is not a guaranteed pathway, but it has worked for cases that were stuck in the automated system.
When posting in the community, include your Case ID, be factual and brief, and have your ASIC or ABN documentation ready to share. The tone matters. Product Experts are volunteers. They respond to clear, well-organised submissions from business owners who have obviously done the work.
Contacting Google Support Directly
Google Support for Business Profiles is difficult to access and does not have direct authority to reinstate a profile. That said, if you have an active Google Ads account, the Ads support team can sometimes submit an internal ticket flagging that the Business Profile issue is affecting your ability to run campaigns.
This does not resolve the case directly, but it can create additional pressure in the system and bring attention to a case that is sitting without movement.
Professional Escalation
Cases with two or more failed appeals require a different approach to what was tried before. That means reassessing the compliance issues, rebuilding the case file, and using the escalation pathways in the right sequence.
We handle these cases regularly. The timeline is longer and the fees are higher due to the work involved, but most legitimate businesses with two prior denials can still get their profile back with the right approach.
Note for businesses in the European Economic Area and European Free Trade Association countries: additional redress options exist under the EU Digital Services Act framework for appeals where standard pathways have been exhausted.
That’s where we come in.
The Google Business Profile reinstatement game isn’t something you learn from a YouTube video or a “quick tips” blog post. It requires knowing Google’s policies inside and out, understanding their review process, and having the persistence to keep pushing when automated responses bounce back like a boomerang.
At Search Scope, this is what we do every single day.

What Professional GBP Reinstatement Looks Like
The appeals tool is the same for everyone. What changes is the quality of the case that goes through it.
A professionally managed reinstatement starts with a proper diagnostic before anything is submitted. That means going through the profile methodically, checking every field against Google’s current guidelines, and reviewing whether the associated website, ASIC registration, and directory listings are all consistent with what the profile shows.
Issues that seem minor — a category that no longer reflects the primary business, business information across directories that has drifted out of sync, an old profile manager with a restricted account — contribute to denials even when they are not the primary trigger.
Document preparation follows a specific checklist. For Australian businesses, that means verifying the ASIC certificate or ABN registration is current, checking that the utility bill is within 90 days and formatted to match the profile exactly, and assembling the operational evidence in a way that directly addresses the type of business being reinstated.
The written narrative in the submission is short, factual, and focused on compliance corrections. Not on the business’s history. Not on how long the profile has been live. Not on revenue impact. Google actually responds to documented evidence of compliance, not to circumstance.
For Australian businesses with a straightforward first or second appeal and clean documentation, same-day reinstatement is achievable when the case is prepared properly and submitted early.

Profiles are disabled for violating Google’s guidelines—like wrong business name, fake address, or keyword stuffing. Stick to the rules to avoid suspension.

My business only operates online and my GBP got disabled
Google requires physical presence. Online-only businesses are not eligible for a GBP listing support.google.com/business/answer/13763036
You need to develop both an online and real activity where you have physical contact with your clients in order to become eligible.
How do I reinstate a disabled Google Business Profile?
Fix compliance issues, prepare valid documents, and submit a detailed appeal to Google.

How long does the reinstatement process take?
Anywhere from 2 days to several weeks, depending on your case and region.
While timelines vary, our team can provide insights tailored to your situation. It can often take from a couple of days up to a month in rare cases. The sooner you handle it, the better, obviously. In Australia, we can get your GBP reinstated in 24 hours if we start early in the morning and have all the documents ready! Escalation cases take longer, with an average of 1.5 to 2 weeks.
How does it works?
We offer two ways to get started, depending on how ready you are and how much support you need:
1. Fill Out a Quick Form to Get Started (Most Clients)
Most clients don’t need a call to get their listing reinstated.
Instead, you can fill out a short form that captures everything we need to evaluate your case. Once submitted:
We’ll review your answers and confirm if your listing is eligible
You’ll receive a detailed email outlining your reinstatement strategy
We’ll request manager access to your Google Business Profile and tell you exactly which documents to upload to a shared Google Drive folder
Once everything’s ready:
We’ll submit the appeal on your behalf, or
If you’ve already been in touch with Google, we’ll give you a ready-to-send appeal template that matches your case
This is the fastest and most efficient way to resolve your suspension.
2. Book a Consultation Call (If You Need Reassurance or Have Questions)
If you prefer to speak with someone before moving forward, you can still book a 15-minute consultation call.
Before the call:
You’ll be asked to answer a few quick questions so we can prepare
We’ll use the time to explain what happened, assess eligibility, and walk you through the process
Calls are limited to protect our availability, so we recommend using the form unless your case is complex or you need one-on-one guidance.
How do you handle my business documents and protect my privacy?
We treat your privacy and business data with the highest level of confidentiality. All documents you share with us—whether it’s your ASIC registration, utility bills, photos, or internal communications—are stored securely, used only for the purpose of your reinstatement, and never shared with anyone outside our team.
We don’t outsource. We don’t use shady freelancers. Every file stays in-house and is handled by professionals who understand the sensitivity of your business identity.
Once your case is resolved, we permanently delete sensitive files from our system upon request.
What does this * means next to the $550 incl. GST price?
The 550 incl. GST pricing applies to cases where the appeal process is still available—meaning you either haven’t submitted a second appeal yet or haven’t exchanged multiple follow-up emails with Google regarding the refusal and “Redress options.”
If the appeal path has been exhausted and Google support is no longer responding, pricing may vary based on case complexity. These situations require additional work, including escalation to higher-level Google contacts.
This applies to cases where the business owners have exhausted all their appeal options before contacting professionals.
This is quite expensive, can I do this myself?
Yes, you absolutely can. Anyone can submit reinstatement appeals, dig through Google’s documentation, and post on the public support forum hoping an expert eventually escalates the case. The real question is whether your time is worth more than the weeks you’ll spend figuring it out and dealing with back-and-forth rejections.
What you’re paying for is not an email or a form submission. You’re paying for expertise, a full compliance audit of your Google Business Profile, website and documentation, and a correctly structured appeal that significantly increases your chance of reinstatement. You’re also paying to avoid wasting time on trial and error.
If saving money is more important than speed and certainty, do it yourself. If getting reinstated quickly matters, we handle everything end-to-end.
A lot of our clients are often telling us that this service is quite cheap compared to all the extra value and peace of mind they receive.
I do not live in Australia nor in an English speaking country, can you still help me?
Yes, we can reinstate GBP profiles from any country and in any language, as long as you are able to communicate with us.
