AI SEO in Perth: get your business cited by AI, not skipped.

Search Scope is a Perth-based SEO consultancy providing AI SEO, Generative Engine Optimisation and Answer Engine Optimisation services to businesses in Perth and across Australia. Search Scope was founded in 2021 by Dorian Menard, a Perth SEO consultant specialising in search since 2013.

Your competitor gets named in the answer. You do not appear at all. That is the whole difference, and it is decided before a Perth buyer ever sees a list of links. When a Perth buyer asks AI who to hire, you want to be the answer.

Every engagement is run by Dorian directly, never passed to an account manager.

Self-serve GEO checklist

30 minutes. We run your buyer questions live across four AI platforms. No proposal at the end unless you ask.

What is AI SEO in Perth?

AI SEO in Perth is the work of getting a Perth business named and recommended inside AI-generated answers, across Google AI Overviews, Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude and other answer engines. It combines conventional SEO with entity clarity, content structured so a passage can be lifted whole, third-party citations, Google Business Profile strength and local reputation signals. The aim is not to rank a page and hope for a click, but to be one of the few sources an AI names when a Perth customer asks it who to use.

Also called AI search optimisation or generative engine optimisation (GEO).

Importance of AI SEO for Perth businesses

Your Perth customers are asking AI first, before they ever open a map.

Local is the part most AI SEO advice skips. An answer to a Perth query gets assembled from 4 things: your website, your Google Business Profile, your reviews and Maps presence, and the Perth sites that mention you. Fix the website alone and you have addressed one of them.

A Perth buyer no longer types 10 keywords and scrolls a search engine results page (SERP). They ask ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews or Gemini a full question, and the large language model (LLM) behind it hands back a short list of 2 or 3 businesses to start with. If your competitor is named and you are not, you never entered the shortlist, no matter how well your site ranks in the old blue links.

Local makes this harder, not easier. AI answers for a Perth query weigh your Google Business Profile, local reviews, Maps presence and Perth-specific citations alongside your website. It is the same groundwork behind a strong local SEO in Perth campaign, which is why AI visibility works best layered on that foundation rather than bolted on alone. We work all of it together, so the model has every reason to treat you as the obvious local answer. Chasing national AI SEO with no local signal is exactly why most Perth businesses stay invisible.

Not sure where your Perth business stands? The free AI Visibility Scanner checks whether 4 engines name you, ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity, in about 2 minutes, then shows the gaps to close first.

AI SEO for Perth: local sources feeding an AI answer panel alongside a map pin
GEO vs SEO

AI SEO vs traditional SEO in Perth: what's the difference?

AI SEO (generative engine optimisation) gets your business cited inside AI answers; traditional SEO gets a page ranked in Google's results. In 2026 a Perth business needs both, because strong rankings still feed the models the signals they trust. Here is how the two compare side by side.

Dimension AI SEO (GEO) Traditional SEO
Goal Get your business named inside the AI answer Rank a page in the blue-link results
Where you appear ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude Google page one, Maps pack
Primary signals Quotable content, citations, entity clarity, GBP strength Backlinks, on-page relevance, technical health
Success metric Citation share: how often AI names you Keyword position + organic clicks
Typical first result ≈90 days on an established domain, 6–9 months on a new one 3–6 months to move competitive terms
Best for Perth buyers who ask AI a full question first Buyers who still search and scroll

The short version: traditional SEO earns the click, AI SEO earns the mention that happens before the click. We run both together, so the same Perth business shows up whether a buyer scrolls or asks.

GEO in Perth

What is Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) in Perth?

Generative Engine Optimisation is the work of becoming the source an AI answer draws on, and the name it puts forward. In Perth that adds a local layer: your Google Business Profile, your reviews and the WA sites that mention you, because a Perth answer is assembled from those as much as from your website.

One caution on the abbreviation. GEO here means generative engine optimisation, not the geo-grid rank tracking that shares the letters. We do both. They are different jobs.

The full definition, including how GEO differs from AEO
Four local signal sources feeding through a map pin into a single AI answer: the website, the Google Business Profile, reviews and Perth mentions.
What our Perth AI Search Study found

We asked 4 AI systems 200 Perth questions, 3 times over 3 days. Here is what held.

In September 2026 Search Scope recorded 2,400 AI answers from Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Gemini across 20 Perth industries, plumbers to family lawyers, and 600 Google Maps captures to compare them against. Most recommendations changed between days. Underneath that, 3 patterns held. The full report, method and dataset are published on AI SEO Perth, our research publication. These are associations observed in one Perth dataset over three days, not proof that any lever works.

  1. of the most persistently recommended businesses sat in Google’s organic top 10

Ordinary Google rankings had the strongest association with being recommended.

Of the businesses recommended across three or four AI systems, 52% sat in the Google organic top 10 for the same question. Of businesses never recommended, 1.5% did. Organic presence was the only factor, with review volume, still associated at that most persistent level.

    See the evidence
  2. AI Overview picks appeared nowhere in the AI Mode answer to the same question

Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode drew on substantially different businesses.

Seven in ten businesses named by an AI Overview appeared nowhere in the AI Mode answer to the identical question. AI Overview picks leaned on organic rankings; AI Mode picks leaned on Maps. That held in all 20 industries, so a Perth business can be visible in one Google AI surface and absent from the other.

    See the evidence
  3. median star rating, identical at every level of visibility

Directory presence was associated with getting recommended, not with staying recommended.

Being listed on the directories these systems cite went with being recommended at least once. It showed no association with being recommended repeatedly across platforms. Review volume did, and star rating did not: the median rating was 4.90 at every level of visibility.

    See the evidence

Search Scope is an SEO agency and "SEO agency" was 1 of the 20 industries measured. Search Scope does not appear in the top 40 recommended businesses on any of the 4 platforms. That is stated on the report and it is stated here.

How AI visibility works for a Perth business

Each AI engine cites Perth businesses differently. We optimise for each.

There is no single AI to game. A Perth query gets answered from a different index and a different set of signals on each platform, so AI SEO Perth means a different job on each. Here are the 3 engine families we focus on, in plain terms.

Three engine panels, each routing differently inside, all arriving at the same business listing.

Google AI Overviews & Gemini

Where most Perth searches happen

Most "who should I use in Perth" queries route through Google AI Overviews or Gemini, so this is the engine we prioritise first for a Perth client. Earning a citation here still starts with ranking respectably in classic Google results for your suburb and service, then formatting content so a clean passage can be lifted straight into the answer, then building links: either a mention in the sources Google is already pulling for that Perth query, or a dedicated asset that targets it directly.

ChatGPT

Crawl access first

OpenAI documents that ChatGPT search "sometimes partners with other search providers", and does not name them for consumer ChatGPT. An agency that tells you exactly which search engine ChatGPT runs on is telling you more than OpenAI has published. What OpenAI does name is the entry requirement: allow OAI-SearchBot to crawl the site, and allow its published searchbot IP ranges. Block either and a Perth business cannot appear at all. AI SEO Perth here means that access check first. Then topical authority around your service area, so the model treats you as a known local entity. Then the fan-out: the sub-questions ("how much does it cost in Perth", "best suburb for") the model expands one prompt into before answering.

Claude

Provider not disclosed

Anthropic documents what Claude does: it decides when to search, runs the searches, and answers with citations. It names no underlying search provider. Brave says its Search API supplies "most of the top 10 AI LLMs" and is the only index behind some of their answers, but names none of them. So nobody outside those 2 companies can tell a Perth business which index answers a Claude query, and we do not pretend to. AI SEO Perth for Claude is the work that holds up either way: pages that crawl cleanly, unambiguous entity signals, and third-party corroboration. That is also what earns visibility inside Brave’s own index.

Source: Anthropic web search tool documentation, and Brave’s Search API blog. Read 8 September 2026.

Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and the rest each pull from their own retrieval layer too, and we track those for Perth clients. Copilot is the exception where the plumbing is not in doubt. Microsoft owns both it and Bing, so ranking in Bing is a documented route into Copilot answers, and Bing Webmaster Tools reports those citations back to you. The point is simple: one generic "AI SEO" tactic does not cover all of them, and where a vendor has not published how its retrieval works, the honest answer is to say so and do the work that holds up either way. For the underlying retrieval mechanics, read how AI search works.

Platform scale

Who's actually on these platforms, and how many of them.

Worth knowing before you pick a lane: here's the freshest monthly active user data we could verify for the AI platforms your Perth customers are asking, each figure sourced, not guessed.

Platform Scale As of Source
ChatGPT 1.0B monthly active app users estimate May 2026 Sensor Tower, reported by Reuters
Google Gemini 1B+ monthly active users disclosed 11 Aug 2026 Sundar Pichai; Alphabet Q2 2026 earnings for the prior figure
Claude ~245M modelled monthly users contested May 2026 Sensor Tower State of AI, via secondary reporting
Perplexity 780M queries in the month disclosed May 2025 Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity CEO

How to read these numbers

  • ChatGPT: Mobile app only, iOS and Android combined. Excludes chatgpt.com, desktop and API, so total reach is larger. OpenAI has not confirmed this figure and reports weekly active users on a different basis.
  • Google Gemini: Gemini app only. Google does not publish its definition of a monthly active user. AI Overviews and AI Mode inside Google Search are separate, larger surfaces and are not included here.
  • Claude: App and web combined. Sensor Tower separately puts the Claude app alone near 56M for Q2 2026, and other trackers run far lower again. Those count different surfaces and cannot be reconciled from outside. Anthropic has published no consolidated figure.
  • Perplexity: Deliberately a query count, not a user count: it is the last usage figure Perplexity itself has disclosed. The 2026 user numbers in circulation, roughly 45M for the core product and 100M+ across all products, are analyst estimates rather than company disclosures.

Read the grade in each row before you compare anything. Disclosed means the company said it on the record; estimate means a measurement firm modelled it and the company has not confirmed it; contested means credible estimates disagree by more than a rounding error. They also count different surfaces, app only in one row and app plus web in another, so this is directional scale, not a like-for-like league table.

Perth trades, retail and hospitality

Selling to Perth locals, tradies, cafes, retailers, home services, put the budget behind ChatGPT and Google's AI stack first: AI Overviews and Gemini. That's where consumer volume actually sits. ChatGPT answers can be shaped fairly directly with the right content, but AI Overviews and Gemini still reward what classic SEO always has: solid organic Google rankings.

Perth professional and B2B services

Engineering firms, consultancies, industrial suppliers, anyone selling to other businesses out of Perth should look past the raw numbers above. Claude and Microsoft Copilot reach a smaller, more professional audience making considered decisions, and that's usually the better place to put a B2B visibility budget. Copilot is the practical one to start with, because Microsoft owns it and Bing both, so Bing indexation is a documented route in and Bing Webmaster Tools shows you the citations.

How we work

Audit, build, earn, compound.

AI citation is earned, not bought. Most established Perth businesses see measurable movement inside 3 months; a new domain takes 6–9. Anyone quoting you AI SEO results in 30 days is selling you something.

Four stages rising left to right, each building on the one before, with the final stage marked as the compounding state.
  1. Audit
    Weeks 1–2

We measure where Perth buyers do and do not find you.

    • Live citation check across ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Claude
    • Google Business Profile and schema audit
    • How local competitors are getting cited
    • The Perth queries you are missing
    • A strategy doc and quarter plan
  2. Foundation
    Weeks 3–8

The unglamorous local groundwork most agencies skip.

    • Schema build (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, Product)
    • Perth citation cleanup and NAP consistency
    • Google Business Profile and review system setup
    • Technical fixes that unlock AI retrieval
    • Existing pages restructured for AI answers
  3. Content & authority
    Weeks 9–14

Content built for Google and AI from the first draft.

    • AI-ready service and suburb pages
    • FAQ content aimed at real Perth AI queries
    • Comparison and buyer-guide pages where they fit
    • Authority links from sources AI already cites
    • Q&A seeded for AI extraction
  4. Monitor & compound
    Month 4+

AI citations tracked next to your local rankings.

    • Plain-language monthly reporting
    • AI citation frequency tracked per platform
    • Schema validation and content refresh
    • Quarterly strategy review
    • No vanity dashboards
Honest timeline. AI engines trust established sources, and that trust takes time to earn. 3 months is the earliest most established Perth domains see real citation movement, 6 to 9 months for a new site. The compounding starts the day you sign. Want the full measurement stack, from GA4 and GSC through to AI citation tracking? How we track SEO ROI →
Why Search Scope for Perth

A local team that was doing AI SEO before it had a name.

Plenty of Perth agencies added "AI SEO" to their homepage in 2025. We have been building the foundations those answers actually reward, local authority, structured data, citations and content that gets referenced, since 2013.

  1. 01

A Perth specialist, not a national call centre.

Dorian is Perth-based and has been doing SEO here since 2013. You get someone who knows the local market, the suburbs and the competitors by name, working directly on your account, not a ticket routed to an offshore team.

  2. 02

The AI foundations were already our day job.

Domain authority, structured data, clean citations, a citation-led content strategy that other sources reference: these are the exact signals AI engines lean on, and they are what we have been building for local businesses since 2013. Generative engine optimisation in Perth, GEO Perth, did not change the work. It put a name on it.

  3. 03

You see your AI presence before you pay anything.

We open every engagement with a live visibility check on your business across the AI platforms, so you see where a Perth buyer does and does not find you before strategy or pricing comes up. Month-to-month after that. You stay because it works.

Is this right for your business?

Who Perth AI SEO actually suits.

Straight answer: we are not for every Perth business. AI citation is a partnership that compounds, not a plug-in. The strategy call runs 30 minutes, and if we are not the right fit we will say so and point you somewhere that is.

  • You already have Perth customers and revenue.
AI SEO compounds authority you already have. An established Perth business sees traction inside about three months; a brand-new site with no content base will struggle to justify the spend early on.
  • A single customer is worth real money to you.
A few hundred dollars a job for local services, or healthy ecommerce margin. AI citation brings qualified, high-intent enquiries, but it compounds over quarters, it is not a tap you turn on.
  • You judge us on leads, not screenshots.
Calls, enquiries and booked jobs from Perth buyers. Not impressions, not keyword positions, and not "AI mentions" that never turn into work.
  • You will let the work compound.
AI engines trust established sources, so citation frequency climbs quarter over quarter, not week over week. The Perth businesses that win treat this as infrastructure, not a quick campaign.
  • You will let us touch the website.
Schema, content structure and authority links all happen on the site itself. If every change waits six weeks on a dev queue, nothing ships and nothing moves.

30 minutes. No pitch deck. No proposal at the end unless you ask.

Probably not us if…
  • You want guaranteed AI citations in 30 days. They do not exist, for anyone.
  • You want a hands-off retainer with zero input on content, reviews or schema.
  • You expect AI SEO to replace a marketing foundation that is not there yet. It compounds one, it does not create one.
  • Your average customer is worth under $100 and you need 50 of them next week. Paid ads suit you better.
  • You cannot take on more enquiries because intake or fulfilment is not ready.
We will tell you on the call. We optimise for your revenue, not our retainer count.
Pricing

What standalone AI SEO costs in Perth.

First, the honest bit: for most Perth clients, AI SEO is not a separate purchase. Second, when it is bought on its own, the order matters. Diagnose, fix the foundations once, then pay monthly to hold the ground you take.

AI SEO comes built into our SEO and Local SEO campaigns. If we already run your Perth SEO, the AI visibility work is part of it, not an upsell, and a fair chunk of the Entity Foundation is work your campaign already covers, so you are not charged for it twice. The prices below are for the two cases where AI SEO is bought on its own: bolting it onto a campaign you run elsewhere, or having us handle AI visibility only. Monthly programs are month-to-month, ex-GST, no lock-in.

AI Visibility Audit

Any Perth business that wants the real diagnosis before committing to a program. One-off.

  • An 84-point GEO audit, run on every site
  • Technical accessibility, indexing and rendering
  • AI crawler access across GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot
  • Entity clarity and structured-data validation
  • Live prompt testing, each platform reported separately
  • A verdict on whether AI Overviews is reachable yet
  • Content refresh plan, page by page, ordered by impact
  • Prioritised roadmap, not a 90-page PDF

$3,000 for ecommerce and multi-location.

Entity Foundation

Almost everyone, first. The cleanup that everything else depends on. One-off project.

Investment
From $1,950 one-off

One canonical set of business facts, corroborated across the sources that decide whether a machine can identify you at all. Priced on how far your footprint has drifted, not on a menu.

  • Brand-fact inventory and canonical record
  • ABN and ASIC registry alignment
  • NAP and citation cleanup across the directories that matter
  • 25 to 100 branded profiles and 10 to 30 Australian directory listings, by tier
  • Schema, JSON-LD and sameAs across your key entities
  • Machine-citable assets: glossary, named framework, comparison tables
  • About page and AI-info page written for machine retrieval
  • Content refresh plan, page by page, ordered by impact

$1,950 single location, $3,450 typical, from $5,000 multi-location or catalogue.

Perth local business

Trades, home services, healthcare, legal, mortgage brokers. One suburb or right across the Perth metro.

Investment
From $1,499 / month

Ongoing work built around Google Business Profile depth, Perth citations, review velocity and AI-ready service and suburb content. Covers ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude, with Google AI Overviews reported rather than targeted.

  • One managed placement per month, media at cost
  • Reddit and community mentions programme
  • Rolling content refresh, reprioritised each quarter

High-competition and ecommerce

High-ticket Perth niches where the category is genuinely contested, cosmetic, legal, medical and the like, plus ecommerce catalogues and brands competing beyond the metro.

Investment
From $3,999 / month

The program for markets where being cited is worth real money and somebody else already owns the answer. Adds Google AI Overviews where your organic ranking supports it. Scales with catalog size, footprint and how contested the category is.

  • Monthly source map refresh
  • Four managed placements per month, media at cost
  • Digital PR link acquisition
  • Reddit and community mentions at volume

What a managed placement is

Managed placement is the part of AI SEO Perth that earns you into that trusted set. When an AI answers a question in your category it does not search the whole web. It pulls from a small set of sites it already trusts, and the same handful come up again and again.

So the first job is working out which ones those are for your questions. Then we get your business onto them, either added to the exact page the AI is already quoting or onto a new page on the same site. You are not building new authority from scratch, you are borrowing authority that already exists, which is why this is usually the fastest thing that moves.

Placement costs are paid to the publisher, not to us. They are invoiced at cost with the supplier invoice attached, and we charge a flat fee for finding and managing each one.

Not every platform costs the same to win

ChatGPT and Perplexity are the more reachable surfaces, because they lean on indexes with weaker filtering and less personalisation than Google's. Claude and Copilot sit in the middle, pull fewer sources per answer so each one carries more weight, and matter most if you sell to other businesses.

Google AI Overviews is the hardest by a distance, and your organic footing feeds it. That is not an absolute. Overviews do cite pages sitting nowhere near page one. But the pattern is consistent enough to plan around: the stronger you rank on a topic, the more often you get summarised. Run AI SEO on a thin foundation and you are working against the odds rather than with them.

That is the one place a specialist AI-only agency has to send you elsewhere and we do not. If the honest answer is that your organic foundation has to come first, we can build that too, and we will tell you on the call rather than sell you a program that cannot land.

The Trust Stack

AI citation is earned from the layers below it.

A model naming your Perth business is the output of the whole stack, not a setting to switch on. Entity clarity, content it can quote, citations it already trusts and a reputation that reads well are what put you in the answer.

FAQ

AI SEO Perth questions.

Traditional SEO gets your site onto page one of Google. AI SEO gets your business named inside the AI answer your customer reads before they ever reach a results page. In 2026 both matter: traditional SEO still feeds the AI models the signals they trust, and AI SEO decides whether you are in the conversation at all. AI SEO builds on strong fundamentals, it does not replace them.

Generative engine optimisation (GEO), also called AI SEO, gets your business cited inside AI-generated answers on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude. Traditional SEO gets a page ranked in Google’s blue-link results. The signals differ: GEO rewards quotable content, citations, entity clarity and Google Business Profile strength, while SEO rewards backlinks, on-page relevance and technical health. In 2026 a Perth business needs both, because strong rankings still feed the models the signals they trust, so the same business shows up whether a buyer scrolls or asks.

The main 4. For a Perth business the work differs on each, because they do not retrieve the same way:
  • Google AI Overviews and Gemini, usually the biggest return for a local business. They reward strong Google rankings plus clean, quotable content and citations.
  • ChatGPT. OpenAI documents that its search "sometimes partners with other search providers", and does not name them for consumer ChatGPT. What it does name is crawl access: allow OAI-SearchBot and its published IP ranges, or you are not eligible to be cited. We pair that with topical authority and fan-out query coverage.
  • Claude. Anthropic documents the mechanism and names no search provider, so we do the work that holds up whichever index sits behind it: crawlable pages, entity clarity and third-party corroboration.
  • Microsoft Copilot, the one case where the plumbing is documented end to end, because Microsoft owns Copilot and Bing both, and Bing Webmaster Tools reports Copilot citations back to you.
Where a vendor has not published how its retrieval works, we say so rather than guessing on your behalf.

Yes. For a local Perth business it is one of the strongest signals. AI answers for a local query weigh your Google Business Profile, reviews, Maps presence and Perth citations alongside your website. A weak or unclaimed profile is one of the most common reasons a Perth business gets left out of the AI shortlist. We manage that layer as part of the work.

If your domain already has authority, expect measurable AI citation movement within about three months. A newer domain takes six to nine months depending on competition, because the models prioritise established, trusted sources and that authority takes time to build. Anyone promising AI citations in 30 days is not being honest with you.

No. Perth is our home base and our local specialism, which is exactly why this page exists, but we also work with clients across Australia and internationally, as AI citation is location-agnostic for many categories. If you are a Perth business, you get a local specialist who understands the WA market directly, not an account manager in a queue.

Yes. We maintain Perth AI search research, a separate reference and research publication that tracks which businesses and sources appear across AI-assisted search for Perth queries, and publishes its methodology, source classifications and data. It sells nothing: it exists so the claims made on pages like this one can be checked against something. The commercial work stays here.

An AI Visibility Audit is $1,500, or $3,000 for ecommerce and multi-location, and it is credited in full against an Entity Foundation booked within 30 days. The Foundation, a one-off cleanup of your business facts across the web, starts at $1,950. Ongoing programs start at $1,499 per month for a Perth local business, or $3,999 for high-competition niches and ecommerce. Month-to-month with 30 days notice and no lock-in. On the free 30-minute call we run a live visibility check and give you an honest scope before any number is discussed.
