Google Ads account suspended

Google Ads account suspension recovery.

Your campaigns are dark, the leads have stopped, and the suspension notice gives almost nothing to work with. Most suspensions are recoverable for legitimate advertisers, but only after the underlying violation is identified, the website and account are brought into compliance, and a single well-documented appeal is filed through the correct channel.

Founder-led recovery for Australian advertisers. We tell you on the diagnosis call whether the appeal is realistically winnable, and we only take the case if it is.

30 minutes, no commitment. If the case is not recoverable, we say so on the call rather than start work that wastes your time.

First, do not make it worse

Five things to do while you wait for us.

Most accounts come back. The ones that do not are usually the ones where the advertiser panicked, fired off three failed appeals, and tried to spin up a duplicate account. Hold steady, here is what to do right now.

  1. 01

    Stop submitting appeals.

Every appeal you file before fixing the underlying issue burns one of your limited attempts. Google's automated reviewer scores the live state of your site and account, sees the same problem again, and denies. Each denial tightens the next reviewer's threshold. If you still have unused appeals, hold them.

  2. 02

Do not create a new Google Ads account.

Spinning up a second account on the same Google identity, payment method or business name is treated as circumventing systems. The new account usually gets suspended on day one, and the original case escalates closer to permanent ban territory. This is the single most common self-inflicted wound.

  3. 03

    Screenshot the suspension reason.

The notification banner inside Google Ads is the most useful artefact for diagnosis. Capture the headline reason, every sub-reason listed, and the date stamp. If the suspension is under "Advertiser verification" or "Circumventing systems", note that exactly. This is the first thing we ask for.

  4. 04

Do not edit campaigns or change account settings.

Since June 2024, Google blocks campaign and account edits while an account is suspended. Attempts to change billing details, swap landing pages, or modify ad copy at this stage are read as evasion. The fix lives on the website and in the appeal text, not in the account.

  5. 05

    Lock down the website.

Do not push site changes once the appeal window opens. Google's reviewer crawls the live site at the moment of appeal. If half-completed edits, a staging push or a redirect rollback is in flight when the appeal is read, the case is denied on the broken interim state.

Why your account was suspended

Four categories. Knowing which one matters more than fixing fast.

Google groups suspensions into four umbrella categories, but the actual fix lives in a specific signal underneath. Diagnosis is most of the work. The appeal itself is mechanical once the root cause is identified.

Circumventing Systems

Hardest to reverse

Google believes you are trying to bypass the ad review process. This is the catch-all that triggers when the system connects your account to any signal it does not trust, regardless of whether you were aware of the connection.

  • New account created after a previous suspension on the same identity
  • Same payment method as a previously suspended account
  • Unauthorised redirects or cloaking detected on landing pages
  • Ads that differ materially from the landing page experience
  • Account, business name or domain previously linked to policy violations
  • Repeated attempts to recreate flagged campaigns

Suspicious Payment Activity

Billing-side

The risk system has flagged something about how the account pays Google. Often resolvable once the underlying billing irregularity is identified, but appeals filed without fixing it first get denied automatically.

  • Declined transactions or repeated failed payments
  • Prepaid or virtual card not issued by a recognised bank
  • Credit card previously linked to another suspended account
  • Billing address mismatch with business registration
  • Unusual payment patterns or sudden spend changes
  • Outstanding unpaid balance from a prior account

Policy Violations

Most common

The bucket most legitimate businesses end up in. The violation is usually identifiable from the suspension notice, the live site, or the ad copy itself. Fix the underlying issue and the appeal path is straightforward.

  • Misleading ad copy or claims the landing page cannot substantiate
  • Restricted product categories advertised without proper credentials
  • Missing privacy policy, terms of service or contact information
  • Malware detected on the site or compromised third-party plugin
  • Trademark infringement flagged on ad text or assets
  • Healthcare, financial or other regulated claims without certification

Unacceptable Business Practices

Trust gap

Google has decided the business model itself is unclear, harmful or misrepresentative. Often pairs with misrepresentation flags. The fix lives on the website (trust signals, business clarity, evidence) rather than in the account.

  • Vague or unclear business model on the homepage and about page
  • Claims the landing page cannot substantiate
  • Contact information missing, generic or unreachable
  • Counterfeit-goods flag on product listings
  • Unverifiable testimonials, certifications or partnership claims
  • Pricing model that looks like bait-and-switch to a reviewer

Most cases touch two categories at once, for example a Policy Violation flagged because of an Unacceptable Business Practice (vague refund terms paired with claims the landing page cannot back up). The diagnosis call identifies which combination is in play before any appeal is prepared.

The recovery process

Four phases. Diagnosis, remediation, appeal, stabilisation.

Diagnosis happens on the discovery call, often same business day. Appeal typically filed within 24 to 72 hours of remediation completing. Google's review then takes 5 to 14 business days, sometimes faster, occasionally longer on advertiser-verification or circumventing-systems cases.

Phase 01 · Same business day

Diagnosis

We audit the suspension notice, the account, the live website and the payment profile. You receive a written diagnosis that tells you which bucket the suspension falls into, what triggered it, what would need to change before an appeal lands, and whether the case is realistically winnable. If it is not, we say so here.

  • Suspension cause identified and documented
  • Website compliance gap list (trust signals, legal pages, contact)
  • Account-level risk review (billing, identity, prior suspensions)
  • Realistic appeal probability and recommended path forward
Phase 02 · 24 to 72 hours

Remediation

Before any appeal is submitted, the underlying issue gets fixed. Policy-violating ad copy is rewritten or removed, landing pages are brought into compliance, billing irregularities are resolved, malware or broken redirects are cleared, advertiser verification documents are prepared if Google has requested them.

  • Legal and trust pages audited and updated to Google-acceptable shape
  • Ad copy and landing page consistency restored
  • Billing profile cleaned (payment method, address, backup card)
  • Advertiser verification documents prepared if required
Phase 03 · Appeal submitted, Google review 5 to 14 business days

Appeal

One appeal, fully documented. We do not submit multiple rushed appeals (Google reads them as spam and tightens the next reviewer's threshold). The appeal sets out exactly what was wrong, exactly what was fixed, and how recurrence is prevented. Direct policy-team follow-up is handled on your behalf.

  • Single comprehensive appeal filed through the correct channel
  • Documentation pack referenced inline so the reviewer can verify
  • Direct follow-up with Google policy team on any review queries
  • Status updates as Google moves through its queue
Phase 04 · Ongoing

Stabilisation

Once the account is live again, you receive a written compliance brief: the specific risk areas on your account, the small ongoing changes that keep the next reviewer from re-flagging, and the warning signs to watch for over the next twelve months.

  • Post-reinstatement compliance brief tailored to your account
  • Risk areas flagged and prioritised
  • Optional ongoing oversight available for high-spend accounts
  • Direct line for policy questions as Google updates the rules

Why most DIY appeals fail

It is 2026. Google's reviewers are AI-first.

Appeals are scored by automated systems before a human ever sees them. That has changed which appeals get through. Six patterns account for the vast majority of denials we see when advertisers come to us after two failed attempts.

01

Appeal submitted before the violation was actually fixed

The most common DIY failure. Google's automated reviewer crawls the live site at appeal time. If the misrepresentation, missing trust signal or policy-violating ad copy is still in place, the appeal is denied and one of your limited attempts is gone.

02

Generic "please review" appeal text instead of evidence

Appeal text matters. "We are a legitimate business, please reinstate" gets nowhere. Appeals that land point directly at the policy clause that was being violated, describe the specific change made, and tell the reviewer where on the site or in the account they can verify it.

03

Wrong appeal path or wrong form

Standard appeal, advertiser verification appeal, and policy-team escalation each have different acceptance criteria and different forms. Filing the wrong one after a denial wastes the attempt and signals to Google that the advertiser does not understand what was being flagged.

04

Fixing the account when the problem is the website

Most Policy Violation and Unacceptable Business Practice suspensions trace back to the website (legal pages, contact info, contradictory claims), not the account or campaigns. Wholesale campaign rebuilds delay the fix and sometimes introduce new flags that compound the case.

05

Spinning up a second Google Ads account

Treated as circumventing systems. Google links accounts at the domain, business name, payment method, IP, and Google identity level. A new account under any related identity often results in immediate suspension of the new account and escalation of the original toward permanent ban.

06

Filing repeated appeals while edits are still in flight

Google reviews the live state at the moment of appeal. Filing while half-completed edits sit on staging, or while a redirect rollback or DNS change has not propagated, results in the reviewer seeing the broken interim state and denying the case.

Quoted on the diagnosis call

Confirmed in writing before any work begins. If we cannot recover the account, we say so on the call rather than start work that wastes your time.

The diagnosis call is free and takes 30 minutes. We tell you whether the case is realistically winnable, what would need to change, and what the engagement would cost, all before any commitment.

What affects the final fee

  • Suspension type

A Policy Violation with a clear root cause scopes very differently to an Advertiser Verification hold or a Circumventing Systems case. We confirm the bucket on the diagnosis call before quoting.

  • Appeal history

First appeal still available is standard scope. If one or two appeals have already been filed, the approach changes (cleaner remediation, sharper documentation, more careful sequencing) and the fee reflects that.

  • Website work

Specs-only (your team implements from our writeup) is the standard scope. Full done-for-you website remediation is available as an add-on and is usually 20 to 40% above the base fee.

  • Account complexity

Manager accounts (MCC) with multiple suspended sub-accounts, cross-account identity links, or unresolved billing escalations need additional audit time before any appeal can be submitted.

If your account is in a permanent-ban state with no remaining appeals, recovery via appeal is no longer possible. We will tell you that on the diagnosis call and stop the conversation there rather than take a fee for an unwinnable case.

Fee confirmed in writing before any commitment, never charged on assumption.

Diagnosis happens on the discovery call, often same business day. Remediation typically takes 24 to 72 hours depending on how much website work is required. Once the appeal is filed, Google's review queue takes 5 to 14 business days. Most cases resolve inside two to three weeks end-to-end. Advertiser Verification holds and Circumventing Systems cases can take longer.

Often yes, but it depends on what was in the rejected appeal. We run a fresh diagnosis and look for what the previous appeal missed before quoting on resubmission. Some cases are unrecoverable after multiple bad appeals, particularly when the appeal text raised new red flags Google did not initially see. We tell you on the diagnosis call.

No. Creating a new account while suspended is read as circumventing systems and the new account will be suspended on day one. It also escalates the original case toward permanent ban. Always appeal the existing account first, even if the existing account looks unrecoverable.

No. Reinstatement depends on the suspension type, the documentation available, the appeal history on the account, and the policy area Google was flagging. We tell you the realistic odds on the diagnosis call. If we do not think the case is recoverable, we do not take it.

Default is specs-only. We write up exactly what needs to change on which pages, your team implements, we verify before submitting the appeal. Full done-for-you website implementation is available as an add-on and is usually 20 to 40% above the base fee. Specs-only works for most cases.

After reinstatement we hand you a written compliance brief: the specific risk areas on your account, the small ongoing changes that keep the next reviewer from re-flagging, and the warning signs to watch for over the next twelve months. Ongoing oversight is available as a separate engagement for higher-spend accounts.

Google's published policy gives you six months from the suspension date to submit appeals. After that the suspension becomes permanent. The longer you wait the harder the appeal becomes, since the documentation needed to prove what was on the site at the time gets harder to assemble after the first month.

Yes. Same approach across all three Google platforms (diagnose, fix the underlying issue, appeal correctly) but each runs against a different policy team with different acceptance criteria. See the GBP reinstatement and Merchant Center recovery pages for those services.

Read-only access where possible. Admin or campaign access requested only for steps that genuinely need it and revoked at the end of the engagement. No outsourcing, no freelancers, no offshore appeals factories. Sensitive data deleted on request after the case is resolved.

Yes, as long as the business sells into a market we can review (English or French primarily). Australian and Asia-Pacific cases get the fastest turnaround because of timezone overlap with Google's APAC policy teams. North American and European cases are also workable, with longer Google review windows by default.
